A doctor who was filmed attacking a taxi driver has blamed her outburst over a bad-breakup and her father’s illness, the Metro reports.
Dr Anjali Ramkisoon, from Miami, was filmed swearing at the Uber driver on camera; kicking him in the groin and throwing piles of paperwork out of the window when he refused to take her home.
The forth-year neurology resident appeared on Good Morning America on Wednesday to apologise for her outburst.
“My father had been placed in hospital and just minutes prior to that altercation with the Uber driver my boyfriend and I of two years had just broke up,” she said.
She added: ‘I knew that I had had a few drinks. Actually I had driven to that place that night but I didn’t want to drive my car home so I left my car there. that’s why I wanted to take the Uber home.’
Interviewer George Stephanopoulos asked, ‘Everything you have said sounds pretty bad – but you know it’s no excuse, right?’
She replied: ‘There’s absolutely no excuse for my actions. I’m ashamed. I’m so sorry. I’ve hurt so many people this this. My family, my friends, my job, the Uber driver. No-one deserves to be treated that way. That’s not me.’
Following the altercation Dr Ramkisoon’s hospital announced that she has been suspended on paid administrative leave whilst an investigation was carried out.
